Schweinfurth Art Center Clay Open Studio
The Schweinfurth Art Center Open Studio program offers the luxury of time, space, tools, and equipment for ceramic artists to continue their practice. The Studio is available for use on monthly or drop-in basis.
Open to ages 15 and up. A short orientation is required prior to using the studio unless you have taken a clay class at the Art Center. All first time participants must sign up for a month before using the drop in option.
The Clay Studio is equipped with eight wheels, a kiln, a Bluebird pugmill, community tools and glazes, plaster press molds, wedging tables, and designated storage space for each artist.
Clay is available for purchase in a 50-pound box or a 25-pound bag. Note that clay used in the Clay Studio must be purchased through the Art Center. This allows the Art Center to reclaim clay and to minimize problems in kiln firings. Exceptions possible if approved by a Clay Studio monitor.
50-pound box: $30 #65 Stoneware – Cone 6
25-pound bag: $17 #65 Stoneware – Cone 6
The Studio is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. These hours are subject to change due to events, children’s classes, and occasional workshops. Participants will be notified prior to any changes. The monthly cost for non-members is $40; members $35; and drop-in rate is $15.
To protect the health and safety of staff, other artists, and the community: The Schweinfurth Art Center cannot allow more than two people at a time in the wheel room. To prevent overcrowding, the Art Center must be notified of plans to use the studio and artists must wear a mask at all times.
Community tools will be assigned if needed and not shared. Each person is required to clean and sanitize their area and wheel before and after use.
