Seward October Book Club
The Seward House Museum invites you to join a virtual book discussion with new titles in American History. Museum staff have selected four exciting books related to the life, era, or broad legacy of the Seward family. Purchase these works and read along throughout each month this fall. Then, join the Seward House Museum for a live community conversation with the author of each book.
For October, the Seward Book Club will be reading, Lady First: The World of First Lady Sarah Polk (Penguin Random House, 2019). Much more than a gripping biography of First Lady Sarah Polk, this book takes readers into the worlds she inhabited, from the frontier, to slave quarters, to the parlors of Washington. In propelling her husband to the White House and shaping his expansionist policy, Polk became “the most powerful woman in America.” Lady First is by Amy Greenberg, Professor of History and Women’s Studies at Penn State University. The author of numerous books on nineteenth-century America, she has held fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the American Philosophical Society. Her book discussion with the SHM will take place on 10/29 at 7:00 PM on FB Live.
These programs are completely free to the public. For more information about joining these online events, please call the museum at 315-252-1283 or visit the website.
