Shibori for Quilts & Piecing with Ana Lisa Hedstrom

3-Day Workshop with Ana Lisa Hedstrom

Fri.-Sun. Oct. 28-30, 2022, 9am-4pm

All Levels

Shibori resist dyeing is exciting and effective for creating fabric for clothing and art textiles..

Students will focus on three techniques to create modular pieces and lengths of silk and cellulose:  ARASHI pole wrapping:  KATANO sewing machine resist where the stitching acts like a clamp: and ITAJIME folding and clamping with blocks.  We will learn the traditional concepts and explore ways to push the boundaries.

There will be an indigo vat and we will paint with thickened fiber reactive dye as well as immersion vats. Students will learn to resist scour silk organza to create areas of stiff and lustrous pattern.

Designing with our Shibori textiles will be an integral part of classroom discussion

Ana Lisa will bring beautiful examples of traditional Japanese Shibori, examples of her own work, and books and catalogs to educate and inspire.

Non-members $460 / Members $450

Masks may be required in the classroom depending on community spread. Masks requirements may be subject to change. If you are not willing to wear a mask please do not sign up to attend a Studio Schweinfurth workshop.
