Mission
The NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center is the official welcome center and tourism hub for the City of Auburn, New York. It serves to shine a light on New York’s equal rights heritage, as well as the historical, cultural, and entertainment assets Auburn has to offer in a welcoming and educational manner.
History
The New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center (ERHC) opened on November 13, 2018, as part of the Central New York Regional Economic Development Council’s “CNY Rising” NYS Upstate Revitalization Initiative. Located at 25 South Street in Auburn, New York, the ERHC is owned and maintained by the City of Auburn, funded in part by 2026-2027 operating funds secured by NYS Senator Rachel May with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the NYS Legislature. It is operated by the Auburn Downtown Partnership and home of the City of Auburn Historic and Cultural Sites Commission. Tenants of the building include the Taste New York Market, Tour Cayuga, and Auburn Downtown Partnership. The Taste New York Market at the NYS ERHC is a program of NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets operated in partnership with the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County.
